Soon after the Academy’s Susie Sainsbury Theatre opened, the Royal Academy Musical Theatre Company performed This is the Hour, a celebration of music by Visiting Professor Claude-Michel Schönberg.

The Company performed a showcase of the composer’s songs from Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, Martin Guerre, The Pirate Queen and Wuthering Heights. It included a guest appearance from Matt Lucas, who appeared in the 25th anniversary concert of Les Misérables. John Caird, the original director of Les Misérables, gave a citation as Schönberg was awarded Honorary Membership of the Academy.

The concert was directed by James Powell and conducted by Head of Musical Theatre, Dan Bowling, with musical staging by Chrissie Cartwright.
