I am preparing and recording a concept album with the goal of learning how to produce and edit my own recordings

The theme of the album is ‘discoveries’, focusing on lesser-known works for harp.

Researcher: Grace Tanner

Some of the pieces on the album include the Petite Suite by David Watkins, Mermaids Lagoon by Lynn Plowman, and a new work for solo harp which I am commissioning especially for the project. I will also be documenting my experiences of recording and editing, through which I hope to build a ‘how-to guide’ for other harpists who are also new to recording their own performances. As part of the process, I aim to experiment with different editing software and to compare the sound qualities of recording in a professional studio and on an iPhone.

My long-term goal is to make harp music - especially less-performed repertoire - more accessible for everyone, and in this digital age, learning how to create a high-quality recording can help me share these incredible pieces of music with others.
