Strauss 80
This Spring we are delighted to present a mini-festival to mark the eightieth anniversary of Strauss’s historic visit to the Royal Academy of Music in 1936, made at the invitation of his good friend and colleague Sir Henry Wood.
When Strauss visited the Academy eighty years ago in 1936 he conducted Tod und Verklärung op.24 with the Academy’s orchestra in the Duke’s Hall. The score from that performance, with annotations by Ernest Read, is held in the Academy’s archives.
