Extending the Piano with New Technologies

Honorary Research Fellow Dr Zubin Kanga discusses and performs works that extend the piano using electronics and video. The presentation draws on his research as Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Nice and IRCAM over the last two years, examining the interaction between musical gesture and technology in new piano works.

Exploring the use of 3D sensors, ‘intelligent’ interactive software, sonic and visual doppelgängers and the creation of new cross-media art forms, the event will feature Kanga’s many collaborations with British and Australian composers, including Stefan Prins, Michel van der Aa, Ben Carey, Patrick Nunn, Adam de la Cour, Neil Luck, Damien Ricketson, Kate Moore and Julian Day.
