EFG London Jazz Festival The Traveller’s Tale

Sunday, 12.11.2017 19:30, Kings Place

Tickets: from www.kingsplace.co.uk

Part of the Jazz Department’s legacy has been the celebration of our own British jazz artists and landmark albums. John Surman, one of the most celebrated of all the British jazz musicians from the classic era, established himself as a solo artist in the late 1960s, and in 1971 teamed up with Canadian saxophonist and composer John Warren. They held an ambition to record a brass project, realised in the 1980s, and in 1993 performed The Traveller’s Tale for a live recording. Tonight the suite is performed with brass players from the Academy’s Jazz Department alongside original band members Chris Laurence on bass and John Marshall on drums. The performance is conducted by John Warren and features John Surman on saxophones and clarinet.
