A programme of French Baroque music from the Historical Performance Department directed by Lisa Beznosiuk, professor of historical flute. Knowledge and understanding of the characterful dance rhythms and elegant melodic nuances of the French Baroque are essential for the stylish performance of all eighteenth-century music. Academy Baroque Ensemble perform a colourful programme of music spanning almost 100 years. The intimate sophistication of Couperin’s Apothéose de Lully is framed by extrovert theatre dances by Lully and a selection of astonishingly inventive and ground-breaking instrumental movements from Rameau’s last opera, Les Boréades.

The ensemble will repeat the programme on Wednesday 21st June at Hatchlands Park, Surrey, where they have built a reputation for dynamic and innovative performances.
