The Academy Cello Ensemble, led today by our Alfredo Piatti Chair of Cello, Josephine Knight, takes us on a journey from French choral music to thrilling film scores, beautifully transcribed for massed cellos.

The Academy Cello Ensemble was originally formed in 2012 by Josephine Knight and Felix Schmidt, selecting outstanding students from the Academy every academic year. Since their inaugural performance the Ensemble has performed at many prominent venues and festivals throughout the U.K. The group is now directed by Josephine Knight and is formed of the entire first year undergraduate cohort; a rich seam of cello talent. They perform diverse and exciting repertoire ranging from cello quartets to mass cellos. Their eclectic repertoire includes works by Bach, Fauré, Handel, Piazzolla, Telemann, well known film scores and specially commissioned works by James Barralet.
