Royal Academy Opera continues ‘on the road’ during the construction of the Academy’s new theatre, with this new production at the beautiful and historic Round Chapel in the middle of Hackney.

In her fantastical world of glamour and magic Alcina weaves spells of seduction enticing all into her world of sensuality and pleasure. Hedonism is celebrated and men are blinded by illusion into short-term thinking and the search for happiness outside themselves. Caught in her own web of spells Alcina plays the femme fatale, yet is also a vulnerable woman with feelings of yearning, loneliness and despair. Her world implodes when she herself is seduced and falls in love. Handel explores the power of love in all its complexities — as passion, delusion and infatuation, as well as tenderness, yearning and the search for connection.

All seating in the main audience area will be unreserved.

Please note that audience seating will be accessed by a staircase. Limited seating will be available at ground level — if you are less mobile and require accessible seating please state this when you book your tickets.

Further performances on Monday 24th (sold out), Wednesday 26th (sold out) and Thursday 27th October (sold out).
