It is with great regret that, owing to compositional commitments, Oliver Knussen feels he must withdraw from the Stockhausen concert on Wednesday 6 December 2017. We are pleased to announce that Pascal Rophé will be joining the London Sinfonietta and the Royal Academy of Music Manson Ensemble to conduct the project.

Stockhausen Zodiac for orchestra
Stockhausen Trans for orchestra and tape

Pascal Rophé conducts an all-Stockhausen programme culminating in Trans (1971), a magnificent and fascinating orchestral work which came to the composer in a dream. As much a piece of theatre as it is music, the entirety of it is played behind a mesh gauze, so that the eerie sounds seem to appear and fade away as if in a dream themselves. This project is the most recent collaboration in a series of side-by-side concerts and mentorship experience for senior Academy students with London Sinfonietta, which began in 2002. This is the third in a biennial series of large-scale Stockhausen performances at Royal Festival Hall.
