Auditions in Asia and Australia

Auditions for 2019 entry:

Sydney and Singapore - October 2018

Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo - November 2018.

If you live in Australasia or East Asia, you should attend one of these auditions, or the main auditions held in London in December 2018.

In the ‘Choices’ section of your UCAS Conservatoires online application, use the ‘Audition method’ box to tell us the audition centre you want to attend.

The main application deadline for the Australia and East Asia auditions is 1 October 2018, 6pm UK time (18.00 BST). If you apply after that, we will be able to include you if there is space left at the audition venue - please email admissions@ram.ac.uk to let us know you've made the application. The exact time of your audition will be issued in early November.

If we are unable to arrange an audition for a late applicant, the Academy fee which you pay to UCAS Conservatoires will be refunded. If you have difficulty with the application payment, there is a UCAS Contacts web page which includes a telephone helpline for candidates outside the UK: +44 330 3330 232

Audition requirements

The audition requirements are the same as for a London audition (details are on the relevant Department page), except that:

  • the audition length may be different
  • violin candidates do not have to prepare a study

Please be aware that our auditions in Australia and East Asia are NOT available for: Opera, Jazz, Conducting, Choral Conducting, Repetiteur, Composition, Musical Theatre or Research degrees – all of these are only auditioned in London.

Also, we regret it may not be possible to audition candidates for Harp, Percussion, Organ or Historical Performance because of limitations at the host venues. If you wish to audition for one of these principal studies, please contact the Academy Registry or your local audition coordinator before you complete your online application.

Supplementary notes about audition requirements can be downloaded here.

Musical Theatre candidates

If you are applying for the Musical Theatre MA degree, you can audition by video if you cannot travel to London – find out more here. The deadline for your application and recording is 1st November.

Composition candidates

If you are applying for Composition BMus year 1, MMus, MA or Professional Diploma, and you are unable to travel to London, you can request to have your interview through a video link.

The video interview date and time will be allocated within the London audition schedule in December. An interview will be offered to candidates whose portfolios pass the first assessment stage, as detailed here.

You must apply for a London audition and send your portfolio to the Academy by 2nd October. Please notify the Academy Registry by sending an email to admissions@ram.ac.uk, including your UCAS Conservatoires ID number, your full name as it appears in your passport and in your application, and your request to use video if you are selected for an interview.

Harp candidates

Harp candidates must arrange their own harp transportation and tuning, and must also prepare a video of their playing to upload into Acceptd for viewing by the Head of Harp at the Academy.

Audition Fees

There is a £25 registration fee when you register your details in UCAS Conservatoires (for more information see here) as well as the Academy application fee of £150 (UK sterling). Your application will not be processed unless these fees are paid.

You can pay the fees by credit card to UCAS, using the UCAS Conservatoires online payment system when you submit your application, or you can call the UCAS telephone helpline for candidates outside the UK: +44 330 3330 232.
