Enjoy the Prelude from Act 1 of La traviata, performed by the Academy Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Sir Mark Elder.

This performance took place in 2014, in the same year that Sir Mark conducted performances of the full Verdi opera at the Glyndebourne Festival in a production that attracted great reviews in The Daily Telegraph and Guardian.

Elder was announced as Barbirolli Chair of Conducting in 2016 and regularly conducts performances at the Academy. You can also watch him conduct Nielsen’s Symphony No 4, ‘Inextinguishable’ on our recordings page.
