Semyon Bychkov leads the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Franz Schmidt’s Symphony No 2, composed in 1913.

Schmidt is often overlooked for his unashamedly tonal late-Romantic style, but his Symphony No 2 has been championed by Bychkov in recent years. In 2017 he conducted an acclaimed recording with the Vienna Philharmonic, the orchestra in which Schmidt himself was once a cellist.

Bychkov is Klemperer Chair of Conducting at the Academy.
