Ian holds a BMus (Hons) in Composition from Edinburgh Napier University (2017). During his studies he received the Alexander McCall Smith Prize for Composition. Whilst in Edinburgh, he studied conducting with Michael Harris, Master of the Music of St. Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh. Ian also studied Contemporary Composition Practice at the International College of Liberal Arts in Kofu, Japan. Now studying for an MA in Musical Direction and Coaching at the Academy, his credits so far have included co-orchestrator and vocal arranger for Colored Lights: The Songs of Kander and Ebb (2022) and composer of an original score for Shakespeare’s As You Like It (2023).
Previously, he held the position of Music Lecturer and Residential Music Director at the MGA Academy of Performing Arts, Edinburgh, and Musical Director on numerous productions with the Academy.
As Musical Director/Supervisor, Ian has worked on various musical theatre productions in Scotland, including Sweeney Todd (Brunton Theatre), Rabbie (Burns and Beyond Festival) and RENT (Gilded Balloon). He is co-founder of Arthur & Redpath Productions and was Musical Supervisor for You Are Here: A Revue (2022). He is currently composing an original score for a piece of new writing: Twenty People A Minute (2023).
