Daniel read Music at the University of Birmingham, with Viola as his first study instrument

The early part of his teaching career was working as a String Specialist Teacher for Music Services in Luton, Bedfordshire and Harrow during which time he developed whole class string programmes as part of David Blunkett’s Wider Opportunities initiative. In 2009 he led the implementation of this initiative for Lewisham Music Service as Head of Strings, increasing levels of musical participation across the Borough and became the lead Upper Strings Teacher for the First Strings Experience at the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department and was trained in early years string teaching techniques under Philippa Bunting, which included Kodaly and Dalcroze based methodologies.

Later Daniel became the West Area Head for Wiltshire Music Service, managing and shaping instrumental tuition in schools, as well as leading Wiltshire Young Musicians and shaping ensemble provision. This role included leading and directing beginner to advanced level youth orchestras until the closure of Wiltshire Music Service.

In recent years Daniel has returned to work in London with varied positions including Head of Strings for Tower Hamlets Music Service, Music Co-ordinator at a Primary School in Hammersmith and Course Director for Stringwise in Haringey.

Currently Daniel is Director of the First Strings Experience at JRAM which also involves collaborating on Chance To Play, an equal access initiative.
