Stringed instrument: Violin by Januarius Gagliano, c.1780

Two piece back of plain maple with ribs of a similar cut. The head appears to be made from fruitwood - possibly plum. Table from two pieces of spruce of narrow to medium growth. The instrument retains most of its thinly applied orange/brown spirit varnish.
