The ‘Spagnoletti’ violin free

Saturday, 01.09.2018 - Thursday, 31.01.2019, Tertis case

Paolo Spagnoletti (1773-1834) began life as Paolo Ludovico della Diana and was born in Cremona, close to the workshops of Stradivari and Amati. He was a leader of several London orchestras and a professor at the Academy.

His violin was made by Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri (1698-1744), commonly known as ‘del Gesù’.

The violin and other artefacts have been kindly loaned to the Academy by an American violinist, Elliott Golub, and will be on display in the strings gallery on the 1st floor until the end of January 2019.
