Historical Performance: your experience

One of the most active and diverse Academy departments, the Historical Performance Faculty boasts a packed schedule of events.

From small public chamber music concerts within the Academy to baroque orchestra performances in some of London’s most prestigious venues, our students are stylistically aware, historically informed and highly versatile.

Our professors, who are active as soloists and in leading period instrument ensembles, give classes in specialised areas of performance practice from Medieval to Romantic. These include rhetoric, dance, ornamentation and improvisation techniques, tuning and temperaments and continuo.

Visiting Professors come in frequently to work with students in masterclasses, to give lectures, and to teach one-to-one lessons.
