Previous work with the Royal Opera House

Originally from Melbourne, Kate has sung professionally in the UK for twenty years, both as a soloist and, for more than a decade, as an extra-chorister with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Kate was appointed Associate Professor of Vocal Studies, Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2005 following three years as singing teacher at Westminster School. She taught singing in the Vocal Studies department, the Historical Performance department and the Opera department.

Recently Kate completed a Masters in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at IOE (University of London) with a dissertation on conservatoire student perceptions of expressivity and interpretation and how one-to-one teachers influence their interpretive processes. Since completing her MA Kate’s teaching at Guildhall included lectures for Masters students on Reflective Practice and extensive contributions to the PGCert in Performance Teaching. Kate was made a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2014.

Kate is particularly interested in opportunities for collaborative learning in the conservatoire environment and she is keen to promote dynamic and engaging singing.

Kate joined the staff at the Royal Academy of Music in September 2017.
