Since leaving the Royal Academy of Music with a first class honours degree John has enjoyed a busy and varied career as a freelance musician. He currently plays trumpet in Phantom of the Opera which allows him to pursue other playing interests.

John is a regular in the Royal Opera House orchestra, the English National Opera orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra. He is a keen exponent of the Baroque trumpet and works with groups such as the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment, the King’s Consort, The Sixteen, the Hanover Band, the New York Collegium and the Stuttgart Baroque.

Coaching is also important to John and he is often seen encouraging youth orchestras and symphonic wind ensembles, or encouraging young people to begin instrumental lessons.
