Jane Glover was Director of Opera at the Royal Academy of Music from 2009 to 2016, during which time she conducted numerous acclaimed performances including the premiere of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’s final opera, Kommilitonen!.

Jane Glover is also Music Director of Chicago’s Music of the Baroque. She joined Glyndebourne in 1979, where she was Music Director of Glyndebourne Touring Opera from 1981 to 1985. From 1984 to 1991 she was Artistic Director of the London Mozart Players.

Jane Glover has appeared with the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, New York Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Berlin Staatsoper, Royal Danish Opera, Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Glimmerglass Opera, New York City Opera, Opera Australia, Opera Theatre of St Louis, and the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. A Mozart specialist, her core repertoire also includes Monteverdi, Handel and Britten. Other operatic repertoire includes Purcell, Gluck, Beethoven, Rossini, Donizetti, Humperdinck and Knussen.

In concert she has performed with all the major orchestras in Britain, repeatedly at the BBC Proms, and in recent seasons has also appeared with numerous British and American modern and ‘period’ instrument orchestras.

Her many recordings include Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Britten and Walton with the London Mozart Players, the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Singers. Most recently she has released recordings of Haydn Masses, and Handel’s Messiah.

Her book Mozart’s Women, was published to great critical acclaim in September 2005. It was nominated for both the Samuel Johnson Prize and the Whitbread Prize for Non-Fiction.

Recent engagements include Don Giovanni with Opera Theatre of St Louis, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Aspen Music Festival, Gluck’s Armide for the Metropolitan Opera Young Artists with the Juilliard School and concerts with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony. For Royal Academy Opera she has conducted Cavalli’s Il Giasone, Così fan tutte, the world premiere of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’s opera Kommilitonen!, Béatrice et Bénédict, and Die Zauberflöte.

Jane Glover holds honorary degrees from several universities, and has a personal Professorship at the University of London. From 1990 to 1995 she served on the Board of Governors of the BBC.

Jane was appointed to the new role of Felix Mendelssohn Emeritus Professor of Music in July 2016.
