Helen decided to make music her career after studying French and Spanish at Cambridge University. She was offered a scholarship for postgraduate orchestral studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has been principal piccolo with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra since 2004, and also freelances with BBC Symphony, Philharmonia and London Sinfonietta.

She is credited on a number of film scores including Vera Drake and Fantastic Mr Fox, playing piccolo, alto and bass flutes, recorders and ethnic flutes.  More recently she can be heard on Dolphin Tale 2, How to Train your Dragon, the Prophet and Jupiter Ascending.

Helen is also a founder member of Endymion Ensemble.
