Edward Gardner

OBE, Sir Charles Mackerras Chair of Conducting

Recognised as one of the most talented conductors of his generation

Appointed as Sir Charles Mackerras Chair of Conducting in September 2014.

Edward Gardner studied at the Academy and became the Music Director of English National Opera in May 2007.

He received the Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2008 for Best Conductor. In 2009 he was awarded the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera, and in 2012 he was awarded an OBE for Services to Music in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

In October 2015 Edward took up his new appointment as Chief Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
