-Posted on 22.05.2020

We’ve had some exciting news from our students and staff this week, alongside a range of excellent #RAMplaysON performances - you can find some of our highlights at the bottom of this news story.

The Academy Strings Department has four new Visiting Professors: Božo Paradžik (double bass), Igor Yuzefovich (violin & orchestra studies), Roman Simovic (violin) and Ashan Pillai (viola). These musicians bring a wealth of experience to their teaching, from orchestral leading to ensemble and solo recital work. We look forward to welcoming these esteemed performers to the Academy in person once the building has re-opened.

Renowned cellist and Academy student Sheku Kanneh-Mason has been awarded the 2020 Rheingau Music Festival Award. The prize comes with a cash sum of €15,000 and an invitation to perform at the festival in 2021. Recently, Sheku has been busy performing live-streamed concerts from his home which you can find on his Facebook page. Earlier this week Sheku performed at a virtual tribute concert remembering Lynn Harrell, former Academy Principal and International Chair for Cello Studies, who sadly died last month.

The Sorrell Women Conductors Programme is now open for applications. The course, held over four weekends from September 2020, is aimed at women who are considering applying for a Master’s in orchestral conducting. The programme is now in its third year and is led by the Academy’s Head of Conducting Sian Edwards.
