#RAMplaysON - Update 6

-Posted on 07.05.2020

This week at the Academy we have celebrated BBC Young Musician success and the appointment of a Visiting Professor, and have watched a new video from Open Academy and numerous online performances. Our team remains on hand to help you share your music online – to take part in our campaign simply tag us with #RAMplaysON.

Congratulations to Thomas Luke from our Junior Academy for winning the BBC Young Musician Keyboard Final 2020. We wish Thomas and the others competitors every success in the rest of the competition which continues with the Woodwind Final on Sunday 9 May.

Leading violinist and ensemble director Lorenza Borrani has been announced as Visiting Professor of Chamber Orchestras. Alongside her career as a soloist, Borrani has been Leader of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe since 2008 and is a co-founder of the renowned collaborative ensemble Spira mirabilis. We are looking forward to having her back in the building soon but in the meantime you can watch Lorenza lead the Academy Chamber Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven and Haydn from October last year.

The Open Academy’s ‘#RAMplaysON With You’ project launched this week. Through weekly videos the series seeks to bring their community and participation work online, providing free performances to inspire creativity. The first video features Open Academy Fellow Francesca Orlando performing a favourite piece by Chopin. We encourage you to share your responses to the music, as artwork, photos and comments, on social media by tagging #OpenAcademy and #RAMplaysON.

Here are some of our favourite #RAMplaysON videos from the past week:

Alumni Yuko Sano and Cameron Grimes performed a virtual duet of French love song Plaisir d'Amour.

This Latvian folk song arrangement, featuring students Margarita and Robert Balanas, was broadcast on Latvian Radio 3.

The Kanneh-Mason family have shared more live stream concerts, including this performance of Vivaldi and Chopin.

Thank you Kian from our Primary Academy for your Star Wars violin tribute.
