Opera alumna in Breakthrough Award

Congratulations to Royal Academy Opera alumna Jennifer France, who is the Opera Category nominee for the 2016 The Times Sky Arts South Bank Breakthrough Award. The nomination cites Jennifer as ‘The soprano who in the last year has made scene-stealing turns as the Controller in Flight at Holland Park Opera, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi at Opera North and Dalinda in Ariodante at Scottish Opera’.

The nominees, described as ‘Britain’s brightest young talent across the arts’, will attend the South Bank Sky Arts Awards on 5th June. The winner, chosen in an online vote by Times readers and fans, will follow such young stars as the actors Luke Pasqualino and Tom Hiddleston, the dancer Aaron Sillis, the soprano Sophie Bevan, the comedian Nick Helm and the rock band Everything Everything.

Voting is open on The Times website until midnight on Friday 6th May.

Jennifer’s 2016 ngagements include Flavio (Il vologeso) for Classical Opera, Adele (Die Fledermaus) for Opera Holland Park and Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos) for Nederlandse Reisopera, as well as concerts with the Hallé, the Israel Camerata and at the Three Choirs Festival, with a host of exciting debuts scheduled for 2017 and beyond. Her debut recording of Songs by Debussy with Malcolm Martineau is available on Hyperion CD.
