Denis Bouriakov joins the Academy as Visiting Professor of Flute

We are delighted to welcome Principal Flute of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Denis Bouriakov to the Academy as a Visiting Professor.

In recent years, Bouriakov has established himself as one of the most active and sought-after soloists in the flute world. In addition to having a phenomenal virtuoso technique and musicianship, he is continually transcribing and performing violin concertos and sonatas, expanding the limits of flute technique and artistry.

Bouriakov says: ‘I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed a Visiting Professor and very honoured to be back at the Academy. As an alumus myself, I treasure the school and it’s very dear to me. I was very fortunate to study with William Bennett OBE for 4 years at the Academy, and those were amazing years! Coming from Russia, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the RAM’s generous support. Recently, I came back to do a masterclass, and was so happy to see this great school thriving and developing, and to discover that the level of playing is only getting higher! It was an absolute pleasure working with those talented students and I am really looking forward to coming back to my ‘alma mater’ with this professorship.’

He joins a roster of eminent Visiting Professors in the Woodwind Department including Emily Beynon, Paul Edmund-Davies, Jonathan Kelly, Kai Frömbgen, Andrew Marriner, Patrick Messina and Jonathan Davies.
