Christoph Richter joins Strings staff

The Strings Department is delighted to welcome Christoph Richter as professor of cello.

The Academy’s Head of Strings, Jo Cole, commented:

‘Christoph is a remarkable musician with an enormously distinguished performing profile. He is in constant demand as a soloist, with memorable complete Beethoven Sonata and Bach cycles in London in recent years alongside his diary of concerto appearances world-wide. The inspirational figure of Sandor Vegh kindled his passion for chamber music and the list of great artists with whom he has collaborated include Heinz Holliger, Andras Schiff and Isabelle Faust.

‘With London now as his base, Christoph consolidates his relationship with the Royal Academy of Music — moving from regular visitor to his formal appointment as professor of cello.

This brings one of the most formidably talented and stimulating international artists and teachers onto the faculty. We wish him many years of happiness and fulfillment at the Academy.’
