BBC Proms 2015 season

-Posted on 24.04.2015

Yesterday the BBC Proms announced their 2015 season. Many of our distinguished alumni and professors feature in the great concerts we can look forward to in the coming months.

Just some of the Academy alumni performing in the 2015 Proms include Lucy Crowe, Colin Currie (Professor of Solo Repertoire and Concerti), Edward Gardner (Sir Charles Mackerras Chair of Conducting), Dame Evelyn Glennie, Susanna Mälkki, Nicholas Mulroy and David Shipley, Sir Simon Rattle, Hilary Summers, Maxime Tortelier, and Ilan Volkov – alongside the countless orchestral players who will also be performing throughout the season.

In the Last Night of the Proms alumnus Benjamin Grosvenor will perform under the baton of Marin Alsop, who a few months ago conducted the Academy’s Symphony Orchestra in Britten’s War Requiem at Southbank Centre.

Featured composers include alumni Eleanor Alberga, Luke Bedford, Alissa Firsova and Philip Sheppard.

Featured Academy professors include Semyon Bychkov, Gary Carpenter, Michael Cox and Mark van de Wiel, Tansy Davies, David Hill, Timothy Jones, Oliver Knussen, James O’Donnell, Robin Ticciati and Jack Liebeck, who will perform in a special Prom devoted to our fictional neighbour Sherlock Holmes.

As always, the bust of Sir Henry Wood — Academy student and professor and founder of the Promenade Concerts in 1895 — will travel from the Academy to the Royal Albert Hall for the full season.
