The New Year’s Honours list featured several Academy alumni and staff. David Titterington, Head of Organ, has written about the award to Anne Marsden Thomas, Academy alumna and current professor.

I am sure you will wish to join me in congratulating Anne on the award of MBE (for services to organ music) in the Queen¹s New Year’s Honours.

It is truly fitting that her pioneering work in organ education and organ music generally should be recognised in this way. The St Giles International Organ School founded in 1992 by Anne (now, RCO Academy Organ School), has trained over a thousand organists of all ages and ability levels and is acknowledged worldwide as a model of its kind in the teaching of the organ. With centres across the UK, summer courses, workshops and individual teaching, Anne oversees the delivery of all aspects of the syllabus and vocational training which is rigorously monitored and mentored.

At the Academy, we are very fortunate to have Anne leading our LRAM programme and the new Junior Academy organ course to which she brings a wealth of experience and expertise. In addition, her numerous publications and articles on organ teaching and repertoire have themselves become benchmarks within our profession

Many congratulations Anne on this richly deserved award.
