Alex Ross

It is with great sadness that the Academy announces the death of Alex Ross, double bass student, on 22 December 2018.

Jo Cole, Head of Strings, said:

'Alex Ross, second year Undergraduate student, was with a double bass-playing friend, Sian Chambers when they were both killed instantly on 22 December shortly before 1am by a drunk driver. Alex’s family have asked that you keep Alex in your thoughts as you play and remember him in that way, and by making the most of the opportunities that he will now never have.

'Jacqueline Buck, Alex’s mum, has urged me to remind everyone of the terrible danger of drinking and driving and how this truly wrecks lives. Students should not hesitate to contact me, their tutors, the counselling team or any members of staff if they need additional support at this difficult and distressing time.

'I am sure you will join me in sending our thoughts to Alex and Sian’s families. I personally remember him fondly as a dedicated student and as a significant talent, with a marvellous dry sense of humour, which I will miss very much. There will be a memorial event for Alex in due course, in consultation with close friends and family.'
