We are delighted to hear that Academy student Sheku Kanneh-Mason has won two Classic Brit Awards: male artist of the year and a critics’ choice award. The awards come after a rapid rise to fame which began when Sheku won the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year. Since then, he has performed at the BAFTAs and the BBC Proms and released an album, Inspiration, which is still at the top of the classical music charts. His recent performance at the royal wedding was met with worldwide recognition, helping him to reach number one on Billboard's (US) Classical Overall and Classical Traditional Charts, as well as number 13 on Top Current Albums and Number 60 on the Top 200 Chart.

Other award-winners included Andrea Bocelli, who was named a Classic Brits Icon, and Andrew Lloyd Webber, who was given a special recognition award forMusical Theatre and education. Academy alumna Katherine Jenkins performed at the ceremony, and guitarist and our President of Alumni Miloš Karadaglić was also present.

The ceremony will be broadcast on ITV on Sunday 17 June.
