2016 JazzFM Awards

The 2016 JazzFM Awards were presented at the Bloomsbury Ballroom on 26th April. Hosted by writer, actor and broadcaster Hardeep Singh Kohli, the ceremony featured big-name performances the genre and was attended by a host of well-known faces.

Jacob Collier (studying jazz on the Academy’s BMus programme, and currently on sabbatical) was nominated in the Breakthrough Act of the Year.

Jazz alumna Lauren Kinsella was awarded Vocalist of the Year. The JazzFM citation praised Lauren for her ‘decidedly literate jazz can be hailed as a unique pairing of classical literature with at times highly experimental and intriguing Jazz material’.

Jacob Collier was winner of Digital Initiative of the Year. JazzFM say: ‘Jacob’s talent has been recognised as a truly innovative style of performance by many of the current giants of the Jazz and wider musical world’.

Lifetime Achievement was awarded to Quincy Jones, who visited the Academy last year for presentation of Honorary Doctorate of the University of London.
