Congratulations to a number of Royal Academy of Music composers, staff and alumni who have been shortlisted for BASCA British Composer Awards.

The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors is one of the largest professional associations for music writers and exists to support, protect and campaign for the interests of British songwriters, lyricists and composers.

The shortlists range from awards for Brass to Community and Education:

Jazz alumna Trish Clowes and former Visiting Professor Django Bates are both shortlisted in the Jazz Composition section.

Composition alumni Samuel Bordoli and Lukes Styles are both shortlisted in the Community/ Education section.

Alumnus Richard Bullen, who was recently awarded a PhD after studies with David Sawer at the Academy, was shortlisted in the Amateur or Young Performers category.

Alumnus and Visiting Professor of Composition Sir Harrison Birtwistle has been shortlisted in the Orchestral Category.

Former Head of Composition Robert Saxton’s Sonata on a Prelude of Gibbons is shortlisted in the Brass Band category.

Academy composers regularly enjoy success in the British Composer Awards. Read the Principal’s blog from 2013, another particularly successful year at the Awards.
