Recording facilities

The Academy’s recording facilities have been thoroughly redeveloped as part of our major theatre construction project. In addition to filming many orchestral and other public events (many recordings are available on our YouTube channel), provision for student recordings has been greatly increased.

During term time (when not in use for teaching or public events), both the David Josefowitz Recital Hall and Duke’s Hall are available for self-directed ‘unattended’ student recordings using high quality built-in cameras and microphones. The video recording process is simple to operate: students are loaned a tablet with a simple app. Files may be collected the following day, or accessed online immediately after recording.

For students wishing to work with an engineer, there are typically six ‘attended’ audio sessions available each week at St Mark’s, which is a short walk from the main Academy site. These sessions are available at no cost to students. More elaborate projects may be considered upon request, for which charges may apply.

If you are a current student interested in making a booking, then please refer to the Recording page on the Academy's intranet, AIR
