Working at the Academy
The Royal Academy of Music is a stimulating and friendly environment with a diverse mix of students and staff from over 50 countries. Based in central London adjacent to Regent’s Park, we have been training musicians to the highest professional standards since our foundation in 1822. Many of the world’s leading musicians and performers studied with us and we are firmly focused on developing tomorrow’s musical leaders in a number of disciplines including classical, jazz, media and musical theatre.
Details of our terms and conditions of appointment will be given during the recruitment process but in summary, the following apply:
Appointments are subject to receipt of satisfactory references and a probationary period of six months’ duration for non-academic posts and 12 months for academic posts.
Average full-time working hours are 32.5 or 35 hours per week. Part-time hours are pro-rated accordingly.
Our holiday entitlement for full-time permanent staff is 30 working days, in addition to bank and public holidays. Leave must be taken outside of the Academy’s term time and at Christmas, when the administrative departments of the Academy are closed.
Staff are provided with appropriate skills training and encouraged and supported in their continuous professional development.
On the successful completion of your probationary period, you will be provided with the details of the Academy’s pension arrangements. Details can be obtained from the Human Resources Department.
We have our own refectory which is open to staff and students from 8.30am every day during term time. Staff can meet for a chat in the staff common room or enjoy a social hour in the bar which is open from 5.30pm.
On most days there are lunchtime concerts, at which you will be most welcome. Evening concerts and recitals happen daily, where there is a chance to hear a variety of musical genres: classical, modern, vocal, jazz or musical theatre performances.
After successful completion of their probation period, staff may apply for an interest-free annual season ticket loan with the facility to repay through a monthly deduction from salary.
