Jan Whitehouse qualified as an accountant in 1979  whilst working for the London Borough of Redbridge where she was a member of the Chief Executive's Policy Unit. Jan then moved to Coopers and Lybrand as a Senior Management Consultant where she undertook a number of restructuring assignments for clients in the arts and leisure sectors.  Some of the assignments resulted in long term associations with the clients as Jan was retained to direct and manage change on their behalf.  As a consultant Jan occupied the position of Assistant Chief Executive for a London Borough with the remit of reviewing the entire organisational structure of the authority.

Appointed to the Royal Academy of Music in 1995, Jan was made an Honorary Fellow in 1997 and was also honoured in the Woman of the Year ceremonies for outstanding achievements in the public sector.

Jan is a member of the Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, the Institute of Directors, the Institute of Management, the British Universities Finance Directors' Group and the Charity Finance Directors' Group.

As a member of the Senior Management team at the Academy Jan is responsible for finance, personnel, estates, IT, trading activities, legal, audit, catering and central services.
