Honours Committee 
The Honours Committee of the Royal Academy of Music meets annually in January. Awards suggested by the Committee are ratified by the Governing Body at the March meeting.
 
 
 
 

Membership of the Committee comprises the Chairman of the Academy, two further members of the Governing Body, the Principal, heads of studies - brass, keyboard, strings, vocal studies and woodwind - and further members of the professorial staff, the latter of whom rotate at three-yearly intervals.

The Academy welcomes nominations from former students, present and former professors, members of the music profession and the general public for the following annual awards:

Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (FRAM)
Limited to 300 former Academy students, and awarded to those musicians who have distinguished themselves within the profession
List of all current Fellows

Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music (Hon RAM)
Limited to 300 distinguished musicians who did not attend the Academy
List of all current Members

Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM)
Awarded to former students who have made a significant contribution to the music profession

Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (Hon ARAM)
Awarded to those who have rendered signal service to the Academy, whether they have been professional musicians or not, and who have not been former students of the Academy

Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Music (Hon FRAM)
Limited to 50 living members and in the gift of the Governing Body

The Academy is also able to make an annual recommendation of a person of conspicuous merit to the University of London for the award of Honorary Doctor of the University (Hon DMus).
