Junior Composers

Junior Academy meets each week during term time and offers a unique opportunity to talented and committed young musicians from all backgrounds who want to be inspired and challenged to make the very most of their musical ability.

The collaborative team of internationally acclaimed composers teaching at Junior Academy include:
John Cooney
Edmund Jolliffe
Hannah Kendall
David Knotts
Matthew Taylor

Composers are encouraged to attend the Junior Academy Open Day. Details for this event will be published when the schedule is finalised.

This is a chance to come and meet members of staff and attend the ‘Mainly New’ contemporary music workshop and concert.

Junior Academy offers an annual composition prize and at least one major performance during the year. All composers can take advantage of regular composition workshops as well as opportunities to work with visiting ensembles such as the Lawson Piano Trio, Aurora Trio and projects with Undergraduate and Postgraduate Academy students.

In addition to composition tuition, students will benefit from the numerous musical opportunities at Junior Academy, ranging from orchestras to choirs to general musicianship classes.

Applications are welcome from either first study composers or from those who are advanced players on another instrument and would like to have composition as a second study. Bursary support may be available in cases of need.
