Students’ Union
“With a list of alumni that reads like a Who’s Who of classical music over the last two centuries, there is no doubting that the Royal Academy of Music has successfully retained and developed its status as a centre of excellence”Classical Music magazine
All students are automatically members of the Royal Academy of Music Students’ Union, an independent student body which represents the interests of students at every level in the Academy.
The SU supports various societies, provides welfare and international representation, and holds regular meetings to ensure students can voice their opinions. Students are also represented on all academic committees. Social events are an essential part of Academy life. As well as packed Freshers and RAG weeks and a legendary summer ball, the SU organises themed parties, karaoke, comedy and movie nights. Academy students have full access to the University of London Union’s superb sports, leisure and social facilities.
The Union can also provide support for students on a one-to-one basis. You can contact the President or the Welfare Officer on 020 7873 7337 or find them in the Students’ Union Office next to the Students’ Common Room.
The SU is led by an elected president (a current student or recent graduate) and a committee of friendly Academy students. As well as welfare services and international representation, it runs a variety of societies including Street Dance, Yoga, Football and Christian Union. Through the Students’ Union, all Academy students have the chance to be heard.
The Academy’s Student Charter covers learning, teaching and assessment, as well as facilities, services and the student community. Read it here.

Social activities are an essential part of Academy life. Specific events include a Rag Week (Raising and Giving for charity), termly balls, themed parties, and a Freshers’ week aimed to help new students meet and get to know each other. Other frequent events include karaoke, games nights, and unique Academy-inspired quizzes.
The Students’ Union is run in close contact with the University of London Union, giving Academy students access to their wide range of facilities.
