Performance training at the Academy prepares students for an increasingly demanding and diverse professional life and encompasses chamber, symphonic and operatic repertoire, media music of all kinds, and musical theatre and jazz collaborations (read about recent highlights).

Watch our documentary about Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ new opera Kommilitonen!, featuring exclusive clips and interviews with Royal Academy Opera and orchestral students about premiering a brand new production.

External Bookings
Through External Bookings, students can gain work experience outside the Academy, learning to adopt a professional way of handling and administering paid engagements. These include concert and recital performances, often for the more senior students, and opportunities, open to everyone, to earn money playing at a variety of functions. The musical content and performance standards of such engagements are fully supervised by the professorial staff.
