These requirements are for students auditioning to start their studies at the Academy in September 2012. Until specified otherwise, these requirements also apply for auditions in future years. Some audition requirements may change: please check back here regularly. You are welcome to contact the Registry or the department administrator if you have any queries. Royal Academy Opera

All aspiring operatic candidates should apply for Royal Academy Opera, which is an Advanced Diploma programme. Opera auditions take place in London only.

You should prepare four contrasting operatic arias in a variety of languages, one of which must be sung in English or English translation.

You may be given sight reading or quick study tests.

If the audition panel feels you are not yet ready for entry to this specialist postgraduate programme, you may be offered a place on the Preparatory Opera Course with a view to reauditioning for Royal Academy Opera in the following year. (Non-operatic candidates should apply for Vocal Studies.)
