The pipe organ by Welte which Sir David Salomons installed in his house near Tunbridge Wells is a complex and unique instrument. It is the only organ in the world upon which no.10 Orchestrion rolls can be played.

It boasts a wide range of percussion effects including drums, castanets, a cymbal and tubular bells; a vast swell box; and even an Echo Organ in a separate room. The organ went unplayed for at least 50 years until it was restored with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

This release features automatic Orchestrion rolls, Philharmonic rolls recorded by famous organists of the day, and more conventional performances made by Academy students. For comprehensive details, please see the full CD liner notes (PDF format).

These unique recordings were prepared in collaboration with Canterbury Christ Church University.
