Collaboration opportunities
Each year wind, brass and percussion students have the opportunity to collaborate with the jazz department, working with eminent jazz musicians including Paul Clarvis, Peter Erskine, Dave Hassel, Joe Locke and Keith Nicholls.
Students from all departments are able to work with successful West End Musical Directors in an annual Christmas Show, Agents’ Showcase and two major summer productions.
Valuable partnership schemes with the Philharmonia and London Symphony Orchestra enable students to take part in rehearsals and concerts and to develop a range of professional contacts. There is also a strong relationship with the European Union Youth Orchestra, of which Academy students form a substantial contingent.
The Academy is committed to widening participation. ‘Music in Community’ is a compulsory course for third-year undergraduates that provides practical training in diverse musical and social contexts. Postgraduates can opt for the Concert Presentation or Concert Project outreach-based options. See the Open Academy pages for further details.
