First String Experience, years 4 and 5

Latest news from Ben Parry, Director of Junior Academy:
‘We are delighted that Pro Corda will be taking over the running of the Years 4 and 5 of the First String Experience in London from September 2012. The Pro Corda Young String Experience, as it is to be known, will complement our own three-year string course in so many ways, but chiefly for the close collaboration of our two organisations and the sharing of our vision for Early Years string teaching. Pro Corda’s own proven track record of enthusing and inspiring young string players from all backgrounds and the nurturing and training of new string teachers fits perfectly with our own ethos, and we look forward to an exciting period of working together, ensuring the future of our respective courses, and the potential opportunities for children and teachers alike, for many years to come.’

Andrew Quartermain, CEO and Artistic Director of Pro Corda, writes:
‘I am thrilled that Pro Corda was asked by the Royal Academy’s Junior Department to oversee running of the Years 4 and 5 portion of First String Experience. We have already been working with Academy staff and the interns who are also involved with this fantastic strings scheme to ensure a smooth hand over. Pro Corda will run what will now be called the ‘Young String Experience’ at the same school venue opposite the Academy and will work closely with the Academy at all times to ensure artistic consistency from the Years 1-3 through to our section of the programme. Pro Corda will be introducing Dalcroze and Creative Musicianship classes to the programme and CEO Andrew Quartermain is working jointly with Maureen Parrington, Course Director of Pro Corda’s Prep/Primary courses, to direct the weekly sessions. There will also be regular visiting workshop leaders, concerts, and the opportunity for Years 4/5 participants to access Pro Corda's existing residential courses for this age group.’
