New accessible entrance for Academy

-Posted on 07.04.2017

Work has started outside the Academy to provide ramped access and to re-landscape the frontage. The new design is the work of Donald Insall Architects, whose elegant, practical scheme is sympathetic to the original façade of the Academy, using traditional stone and reinstating original features that were lost over the years, including lion urns that were part of the original design.

The aim is to provide parity of ease for everyone who comes into the Academy. The new ramp will be a shared space for pedestrians and slow-moving vehicles, which will be able to drop people off at entrance.

The cycle racks will be moved to the garden area during the works and new racks will be installed at completion. There will also be additional prominent noticeboards.

The work will be complete in September 2017 and we will maintain an entrance at the front of the Academy throughout the works. We appreciate your patience and co-operation in the meantime.
