Professional Development for Alumni
Your connection with Professional Development (PD) at the Academy started on the first day of your studentship, with help from your teachers and peers. Your relationship with Professional Development is an ongoing lifelong process of learning, experience and development. We understand that for many of you, coming into the building is not viable, so we’re hoping to develop more for you online.
For us, access to up-to-date job listings and excellent networking opportunities via the website, Facebook and LinkedIn is a basic essential – giving you the chance of promoting your projects via familiar digital channels and helping you to increase your audiences and link up with fellow alumni.
Live Professional Development Days run centrally. If you would like to attend or indeed participate in one of these termly events, please contact Marc Ernesti, Head of Professional Development. A full timetable of masterclasses to observe is also available to those who can travel in to the Academy. We hope that in the near future we will be able to start streaming live PD events and also upload some digital highlights from the central PD calendar, so that you can access advice and information at your leisure.
Finally, we are currently preparing our first Directory of Expertise. This virtual information zone will list professional contacts who have specific expertise, and who have given their permission to be contacted by alumni who have questions or worries relating to the particular area of expertise. Watch this space for the launch of this vital directory.
Alumni Network Career Consultations
You may not know it, but all Alumni Network card-holders are entitled to a free Career Consultation within their first year after graduation, with the Head of Professional Development, Marc Ernesti. Alumni based outside the UK can arrange for this to take place via skype, telephone or e-mail.
Further consultations can be arranged by appointment at a mutually convenient time, subject to availability, and will be charged at £50 per session.
Volunteering opportunities at the Royal Academy of Music
The Royal Academy of Music Museum runs an active volunteering programme and it is very appreciative of those who offer us their time and expertise. Visit the Museum & Collections to find out more.
Deutsche Bank Awards
Deutsche Bank launched the Deutsche Bank Awards (ex Pyramid Awards) scheme in 1993 to offer practical and initial support to artists, craftspeople, designers and performers to start a business or carry out a project in that crucial year after leaving college. The UK winner in each category - including music - will receive a £10,000 prize, a mentor from Deutsche Bank and a 4 day small business training course.
