Management

The Academy is run by a senior management team led by the Principal.

Together they take personal responsibility for every aspect of the smooth day-to-day running of the institution. This includes teaching and research, student and staff welfare, financial management, administration, fundraising, and much more.
 

   

Professor Jonathan Freeman-Attwood

Principal

Jonathan is a performer, writer, educator, recording producer. He is responsible, under the Governing Body, for all areas of the Academy’s life and work.

 

Mark Racz

Deputy Principal

Mark is an American-born pianist, teacher and music educator. He is responsible for the day to day running of the Academy, particularly all performance-related activities.

 

Professor Timothy Jones

Deputy Principal (Programmes and Research)

Timothy is a musicologist and performer. He is responsible for the Programmes of Study, Research, the Museum, Library and Collections, and Quality Assurance.

 

Judith Barber

Director of Finance

Judith is an accountant with a background in higher education. She is responsible for all financial matters relating to the Academy.

Kirsty MacDonald  

Kirsty MacDonald

Deputy Principal (Campaigns and Advancement)

Kirsty MacDonald has held many senior roles in large and prestigious organisations. She joined the Academy in November 2016 tasked with building a new Campaign Team, and working closely with the current Development Team, towards the Academy’s Bicentenary in 2022 and beyond.
